Friedman and India

There's great positivity in the academic circle over the potential of India when it comes to growth, with the most respected ones harping on and on about the potential that lies in the country. Maybe it's the fact that I hail from a godforsaken state where all the fruits of economic growth disappear into the pockets of the wealthiest; or that I studied development studies in a leftist oriented college.. I have great scepticism about the translation of this much talked about potential into actual ground level development.. I read a rather compelling article by Thomas Friedman in which he compared India with China and Egypt. According to him, India enjoys the advantage of having a strong civil society and she would beat the other two with ease if she were to rectify the issues of governance and corruption, and convert her 560 million strong youth population to what he calls a demographic dividend . Getting this 'Demographic dividend', it seems entails the provision of ...

Shut them out...

Screaming voices resonating in my head, Shut them out shut them out.. Neurons and brain cells speeding around, The world outside so hostile. Faces get on my nerves.. Shut them out. Shut them out. Blink, and I pray they disappear, Open, and disappointed.
It takes no wise saint to sit under a banyan tree to figure out life's biggest truth.. selfish motives.. that's what the world runs on. We constantly find ourselves at crossroads having to choose.. between what's right now, and what's right for later. Maneuvering life's many twists requires such tact, with forces pulling us in unimaginable directions. What then is our guiding light to help our lost souls through.. Life's a befuddled mess, That's for sure..

days like this

forget what we are told, before we get too old. show me a garden, that's bursting into life.. .. chasing cars ( snow patrol) days like this, when familiar faces seem hostile, words of the known, feel like thorns, pricking one's skin. days like this, when the heart desires, a warm cocoon to cuddle in, up till the end of time itself.

befuddled

slow sad songs on shuffle, their melancholy a gentle addiction. reminiscing, about bygones, can we really let bygones be bygones. kindness and empathy, come with a overwhelmed heart. a gentle tap on the shoulder, a tight hug, solace to the ever so lonely heart. questions, of irrelevance, whirlpool in the head, creating a storm. what is it you seek, oh unsteady heart, what puzzles are you yet to unpuzzle, what mazes do you seek an escape from.
overwhelming rush of emotions, a melancholy, an overflow of tenderness, flooding of tears. wherein lies the reason, one knows not.

Parting words to 2012

And so the countdown starts.. twenty minutes to the first hour of 2013. And I sit. With my new found friends of the latest chapter in my life, watching a Hindi movie I do not really want to watch. And so I type away. 2012 has been one of continuity. Of adaptation. Of new friends. Several new sets at that.  2012 has been about learning to love London in its entirety. Of realising my fault in judging things too quickly and ending up being surprised. Looking back, has it been a good year? I remain undecided. But with my trademark positivity, I march on, looking forward to an even more amazing (and even more productive, might I add) 2013. Cheers *raises my plastic cup of coke*
