The Genius, The Artist

Henri Cartier Bresson was an artist.
Unlike the Picassos and the Van Goghs however, he used a camera, the Leica M8 to paint his fine masterpieces which depicted human emotions poignantly.

It was a VIP event, so as to speak. A decadent event where the drinks and tandoori chicken flowed.. bearers dressed in white whisking in and out of the carpeted hall carrying platters of food. Guests sat on sofas, partaking in polite conversations with their neighbours, while listening to the singers who graced the stage. Right, the music, which was the reason for this particular gathering, and which my father thinks deserves a review from my side. The music. Two years ago, I happened to attend the same event, and by no means do I mean this as a compliment, they sang the same songs. The same faces, the same kind of music, the same gaudy lights. Manipur is rich in diversity.. of people, of flora and fauna, and so on.But when it comes to music, specifically the mainstream music, it is sadly still lagging behind. Most of this so called "Manipuri music" are "inspired" (a more generous word to replace "copied") by/from Hindi or Korean music.. to the extent

The world has its ways

The world has its ways of making people feel small, almost insignificant. We set out to do something, may even manage to do it, and look up in pride and joy wishing to be appreciated and Bam!, we see someone else's work, so much better, prettier, artistic.. It makes us feel small all over again. My father always told me, "Envy is the worst emotion. Never envy someone." But this jealousy and envy that sometimes rises like a tide deep inside won't go easily. There is an inextinguishable thirst in me to do something no one else has, to take a picture which speaks more than just a thousand words, to write a piece which sums up the answer to questions of the world, to get top grades in my class, to prove myself to the world. And each time someone else does it, I feel an uncontrollable twang of pain, guilt, a feeling of 'if-only'..
